The Vocal Music Curriculum for Howard County is aligned with the Maryland Essential Learner Outcomes. The four ELO's are:
1)Perceiving and Reponding - Aesthetic Education 2)Historical, Cultural, and Social Context 3)Creative Expression and Production 4)Aesthetics and Criticism
Daily lesson objectives are designed to teach students the Elements of Music. The Elements of Music are: Dynamics, Form, Harmony/Texture, Melody/Pitch, Tempo, and Tone Color. They are taught sequentially throughout the grades. Activities used in class are based on the General Music Essential Learnings: singing, listening, playing classroom instruments, directed and creative movement, reading and writing music, cross-curricular connections, creating (movement and music), making aesthetic judgments, reflecting core values, and demonstrating knowledge of additional music experiences outside of the school setting.
