Students receive two grades each quarter in Music.
The first report card grade is "DEMONSTRATES KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS"
For K,1,2 the grading is "I" for Independent, "W" for With Assistance, and "N" for Not Apparent At This Time.
For grades 3,4,5 the grading is "A" - Highest Level, "B" - High Level, "C" - Acceptable Level, "D" Low Level, and "E" Unsatisfactory Level.
Students are assessed quarterly on knowledge of the elements of music as they are covered in lessons and the skill of demonstration. Music is a performance based art, so in addition to some paper and pencil activities, students are also assessed on demonstrating their knowledge of the elements of music through performance based activities.
The "EFFORT" grade is based on the following:
1- OUTSTANDING, a student must consistently: *be attentive throughout the music class *raise their hand to share information and answer questions *become appropriately involved in class discussions *follow directions when they are given *observe school and classroom rules *actively participate in classroom activities *complete classwork on time
2-SATISFACTORY, a student: *is attentive most of the time *occasionally volunteers to answer questions or share information during class discussions *requires directions to be repeated *occasionally needs reminders to follow school and classroom rules *participates in most classroom activities *attempts to complete classwork on time
3-NEEDS IMPROVEMENT *is inattentive most of the time *does not volunteer to answer questions or share information during class discussions *chooses not to follow directions *has difficulty following school and classroom rules *chooses not to participate in music classroom activities *chooses not to complete classwork on time
